Santorini is, perhaps, one of the most spectacular of all the Greek islands. It's part of an immense, partly submerged caldera – all that remains of an ancient volcano. The landscape is rugged, the volcanic soil nurtures vineyards, and the sunsets, particularly from the village of Oia, are magical. There’s still an active volcano on Santorini, and a cruise, either by traditional wooden vessel or yacht, allows you to explore hot springs, visit smaller isles and enjoy the last rays of the sun dipping down below the horizon from the water.
