It is known as the international centre of fashion and design, and although Milan may not appear to have the obvious charms of Rome or Florence it is still an amazing place. Art, excellent shopping (be sure to visit the spectacular Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, one of the world’s oldest malls), football and food can all be found in abundance, but for history buffs there are plenty of highlights: the Gothic Duomo, with its 135 spires and 3400 statues, and Michelangelo’s famous painting, The Last Supper, housed in a Dominican convent, are just two.
