ITINERARY

Day 1 Mexico City

You will be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel. Rest of
the day at leisure.

Day 2 Mexico City

Morning tour of Mexico City that includes the Plaza de la Constitución, the cathedral, National Palace and Templo Mayor before a brief stop at the Shrine of Guadalupe. Continue to the ancient site of Teotihuacán. Here you will see the amazing pyramids of the Sun and the Moon, visit the Palace of Quetzal-Butterfly, the Avenue of the Dead and the Citadel. Afternoon at leisure. BL

Day 3 Mexico City – Puebla – Oaxaca

Depart Mexico City towards the colonial city of Puebla. Puebla is often referred to as the ‘City of the Angels’, with more than 70 churches and thousands of buildings. See its main square, baroque palaces and its cathedral. Lunch will be at a local restaurant before continuing to Oaxaca. Check in to your hotel and the remainder of the day is yours to explore. BL

Day 4 Oaxaca – Monte Albán – Oaxaca

In the morning visit Monte Albán, a ceremonial centre built on a hill and rich in pyramids, tombs and sunken reliefs. Afterwards will visit a typical ‘alebrije’ workshop where you’ll be able to create your own little masterpiece. In the afternoon return to Oaxaca to visit Santa Catalina and the local market, one of the most typical of the region. Return to hotel. B

Day 5 Oaxaca – Tuxtla Gutierrez

In the morning depart for San Pablo de Mitla, an ancient Mixtec city known for its handcrafted textiles and mezcal. Visit the archaeological site founded by Zapotecs which was also used by the Mixtecs for their ceremonies. Continue to Tehuantepec for a lunch stop before proceeding to Tuxtla de Gutierrez, capital of Chiapas. Overnight at hotel. BL

Day 6 Tuxtla Gutierrez – San Cristobal de las
Casas

Transfer to the marina where you will travel by speedboat through Sumidero Canyon which, reaches heights of up to 1200m in places. Along the way you may see a variety of birdlife, including herons, vultures and kingfishers, perhaps even a crocodile or two. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before heading to San Cristobal de las Casas. Remainder of the day at leisure. BL

Day 7 San Cristobal de las Casas

A morning visit to a local market where hundreds of indigenous people sell their handmade products. Continue to the Baroque Santo Domingo church before a visit to the indigenous communities of San Juan Chamula and Zinacantán. Afterwards make your own tortilla with the help of some locals and enjoy a shot of ‘pox’, an ancient Mayan tonic. B

Day 8 San Cristobal de las Casas – Palenque

In the morning you will be transferred to Palenque. The journey takes you from the cool, misty highlands to the steaming lowland jungle, with a first stop at the beautiful Agua Azul waterfalls. Lunch today will either be at a local restaurant or a box lunch, depending on time. Arrive in Palenque and check in to your hotel. BL

Day 9 Palenque – Campeche

This morning visit the impressive Palenque archaeological site. The area is abundant in beautiful Mayan stonework and stucco. Continue to Campeche and enjoy lunch en route. Upon arrival in Campeche, take a short visit to the ancient town. Afterwards, check in at your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. BL

Day 10 Campeche – Mérida

This morning visit Uxmal archaeological site followed by lunch at restaurant ‘Hacienda Ochil’. Continue to Mérida, also known as the  'White City’. Mérida is the capital of the state of Yucatán and is a charming city of narrow streets, colonial buildings, and lovely parks. Check in at the hotel for an overnight stay. BL

Day 11 Mérida – Chichén Itzá – Playa del Carmen

Early morning departure to the archaeological site of Chichén Itzá. This is the most famous and best restored of the Yucatán Peninsula’s Mayan sites. Enjoy lunch at a local Chichén Itzá restaurant. Transfer to Playa del Carmen with a stop at Cenote Saamal for a refreshing swim. Playa del Carmen boasts gorgeous palm-lined beaches, coral reefs and a lively nightlife. BLD

Day 12 Playa del Carmen – Cancún

At a pre-appointed time, you will be transferred to Cancún Airport for your departing flight. B
